People who lived with the Second Amendment in 1789 are not much different than in 1989. Human nature has not changed in the last 200 or 250 years. Without guns, women and old people are very vulnerable to knife attacks and to physical attacks from younger and stronger opponents. Criminals in the US will always have guns and gun control will not stop them from having and renting guns.
Would you rather be stabbed with a knife by a criminal than own a gun? The answer is obvious, no. If ALL the guns in the US were confiscated during the next six months, then criminals and terrorists would still have knives, axes, trucks to run into crowds, poisons, and bombs. Citizens need guns to protect themselves. The effectiveness of more and more gun laws can be seen in such large cities as Chicago. Very strong gun control in Chicago has not decreased crimes and the murder rate per 100,000 population is much higher in Chicago than Houston, for example.
If you want to greatly reduce gun deaths in schools, then allow 50 percent of the teachers to carry guns in schools. Mass murders of 10 or more people would be stopped. It usually takes a citizen with a gun to stop a murderer with a gun.
